Doughnuts

He stared hungrily at the freshly-baked doughnuts.

“Will you help me pick one?” she asked. His shaking hands pointed at the shelf.

“Oops! I’m on a diet! Can’t eat them!” she said, handing him the box.

She acted in ‘those‘ movies. He’d heard conversations while shining rich guys’ shoes. They labelled her – ‘Enigma’, ‘Other-Worldly-Being’. To him, she certainly was ‘human’.

More than the self-proclaimed ones.

  1. The opening caught me–it seems so sweet to me, how she sees him looking hungrily at the doughnuts, asks him to pick one out for her, and then declines because she’s on a diet. Just kind of sweet to me! Nice piece!
